WHAT A GREAT RIDE!

It was 1973 when I first visited England but I can still remember the excitement of landing in London. I'm a child of the sixties so I was raised on the Beatles and British television shows like The Avengers and Secret Agent Man so when the chance came to visit as a tourist, I grabbed it. At the time, I was a uni student and looking to see what God wanted me to do with my life. I had a worrying thought that God wanted me to be in church ministry but the question was, Where? The first day I was on British soil, I thought, "this is it!"

I haven't looked back since. I finished up my education, married Paula and we joined a Baptist mission society called Baptist Mid-Missions. Our family moved here in 1981 and settled in Luton in 1982.

A lot has happened since then! We've planted a church, raised two sons, and made a life here.

No, I still don't have an accent but I'm working on it (hee hee). It's been over 41 years and by now I am officially retired but the show goes on; but still at it, doing mybest to serve the Christian community of Luton and the UK.

Apart from church, I'd like think that I'm making a contribution to the community as well. I have been a school governor for 28 years and have been Chair of Governors at William Austin Infant School for nearly as long. I enjoy the opportunity to meet parents and children and offer support to staff. On top of that, I am part of the chaplaincy at the Luton and Bedford hospitals, normally I am on call a couple days a month but it wouldn't be unusual to be called in at other times. Chaplaincy is extremely rewarding. I often have opportunities to encourage people, or to pray with them, or just natter and kill time. And every so often, I am able to share my faith and point people to Jesus.

My wife is Paula and she is a talented lady. At church, she works with other women to coordinate church activities and helps to teach. Outside of church, Paula was a school teacher for over 14 years, she taught religious studies in high schools and then worked as a tutor in English and maths.

So that's me and that's Paula. If you'd like to meet up, just ring me and we can arrange a time and place (I love coffee shops!!). And of course, you can pop in on a Sunday.

Contact me directly either by phone to +44 7788-505539 or by
e-mail to pastorstan@fellowshipbaptistchurch.org.uk

God bless.

O lord, our Lord how excellent is your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained.

What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?

For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honour.

You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen - even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, that pass through the paths of the sea.

O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
